How to be more Patient

Patience. It’s a virtue. Do you have it? Do you want it? How do we get more of it?

Do you feel like patience is the end all, be all in parenting? Either you have it or you don’t and that makes you a good mom or a terrible mom?

You would not be alone in thinking this but let me show you an alternate way to look at patience.

What if patience was just a feeling? That you can choose to generate any time by what you are thinking? Did you know that your kids are not causing you to feel annoyed or out of patience? They can’t actually cause you to feel anything. They do what they do. You think a thought about that and then that thought is what causes your feeling. So think a peaceful patient generating thought.

Just like that eh? That’s the magic silver bullet of parenting? Yes and of course, no, it’s not just that easy in real life application. And that’s why I have a job. It’s a nice theory but in practice you’ll need some coaching to retrain your brain.

So, first step is accepting where you are now. Do not label yourself as an impatient mom. You are a good mom. That feels impatient sometimes. No problem. We can handle all the emotions.

I used to just pray for patience. ALL the time. ALL day. and night! And I sometimes felt patient but I never felt like God was just granting me that gift on a regular basis. I always felt like I needed to develop it somehow but never knew how until I understood that patience is a feeling and that feelings come from thoughts.

I also now understand that it’s not realistic to expect to be in a nice sweet zen perfectly patient state all the time while raising little kids. So I give myself grace and acceptance for all the human emotions. I let them be there and process them through and don’t make them a problem that needs to be fixed.

You don’t actually need to feel patient all the time in order to be a good mom! What? If that is mind blown 🤯 sign up here to chat and I’ll show you how in your specific life! Let’s do this 😃
